Depending on how the white spots appear on your nails, you may have one of three types of partial leukonychia:

Striated leukonychia

If the white spot on your nail appears as a horizontal band parallel to the lunula (half-moon shaped base of the nail), you may have striate leukonychia. They are also called Mees lines and usually disappear with the nail over time.

Longitudinal leukonychia

Longitudinal leukonychia presents as multiple pale white bands at least 1mm thick, running parallel to the base of the nail.

Punctate leukonychia

Punctate leukonychia is the most common type of leukonychia and appears as small white dots on the fingernails. These usually go away over time. However, as the nail grows, the number and pattern of dots may change.
